The game will be available on the PC in addition to the PlayStation 4. If all goes well and development doesn't hit a snag, Suzuki and his team plan to launch Shenmue 3 in December 2017. Now that Shenmue has reached its funding goal, developers can get down to the business of actually producing the game. The campaign has ample time to reach the goals: it won't end until July 17. If the campaign reaches $4 million, the developers promise expanded mini-games within the title. More cash will allow the developers to support subtitles in German, French and Spanish, among others. By exceeding $2.5 million, gamers can now expect Shenmue 1 and 2 "cinema shorts" in addition to Shenmue 3. With the $2 million now secured, Suzuki, his team, and perhaps even fans, have their sights set on stretch goals. "If we do not reach our funding goal, Shenmue 3 will not go forward," he wrote on the Kickstarter page. In a statement on the Kickstarter page, Suzuki said his team needs the $2 million to press forward with the game's development. Interestingly, Sega has handed over the rights to the Shenmue franchise to Suzuki and his team and will not have a role in the game's development. It was filled with explosions and combat that we've come to expect from the franchise and it will be here in 2016. Uncharted 4: The Thief's End took us on a wild ride as Drake took the wheel of a jeep and slammed through villages (without hitting a single civilian) as an armored truck tried to take them out. To end the Sony press conference at E3, Sony showed off one of the most popular franchises that needed no introduction. Yu Suzuki then came on stage to officially launch the Kickstarter campaign for the game.

Each time, Sega rebuffed their overtures, focusing instead on other software properties, like Sonic. Over the last 14 years, gamers around the world have used petitions, fan sites and social media to call for a continuation of the Shenmue franchise. Sega, which published both titles, decided to shelve the franchise, even though the second game never provided an end to the storyline. Shenmue 2, a follow-up to the original game, launched on the Dreamcast in 2001 and Xbox in 2002, but was not nearly as popular as its predecessor. The first title, which delivered a compelling storyline as Hazuki tried to avenge his father's death at the hands of antagonist Lan Di, was popular with gamers. The game was first envisioned as a multi-part epic detailing the life of protagonist Ryo Hazuki. It was created by famed developer Yu Suzuki and brought to the ill-fated Sega Dreamcast in 1999. It seems that Suzuki deems the full $7.1 million adequate to finish the project as funding is now officially closed. This move paid off to the tune of almost $850,000. Suzuki re-opened the Kickstarter campaign for what he called a “Slacker Backer” campaign, accepting payments through Paypal. Considering the original Shenmue’s legendary $47 million budget, he had some grounds for this claim. After that campaign wrapped up and raised $6.3 million in funding, Suzuki felt that $6 million wouldn’t be enough to fully fund the game. Yu Suzuki, the mind behind the Shenmue franchise, opened a Kickstarter to fund Shenmue 3 back in July of 2015. Crowdfunding for Shenmue 3 has finally come to a close more than three years after it started, raising a total of US $7,179,510 given by over 81,000 backers.
